A Note From the Editor
My life on the farm taught me many useful tricks for getting rid of mice. I loved living in a natural, rural setting. The horses were in a field just outside my window and cows lived in the pasture right out back.
We had chickens, a goose, and plenty of gardens. However, all that nature comes with a few inconveniences, such as an abundance of field mice in the surrounding areas. It’s just part of the package.
My home was one of those old farmhouses. Very charming, but also over 100 years old and full of its own set of quirks. The exterminators I hired told me it would be nearly impossible to mouse-proof. There were just too many places for them to get inside. So rather than living with the little critters, I became quite skilled in getting rid of the mice that took shelter in my attic, crawlspace, and even one of the upstairs unoccupied bedrooms (that was the worst!).
Over the years I have lived in many older homes and hired quite a few mouse control experts. You can read about the first time I discovered what happens when you let a few mice turn into a whole family of them here. This is why I find it’s always best to contact a professional when you are dealing with a mouse problem in a new area. It helps get you started in the right direction.
Many of the stories you read on this site are from my time on the farm or from some of my previous homes. Some of the articles on this site are also written by other authors that had either a personal experience dealing with a pest control problem or through extensive research on the topic.
