In this review roundup, we will help you find the best peppermint spray for mice by comparing some of the top products on the market.

Our 6 Favorite Peppermint Sprays for Mice

Peppermint sprays are favored by homeowners that want a natural and safe way to repel mice in and around their homes. The most common uses are in kitchens, garages, basements, and sheds.

These herbal sprays are touted as being safe for pets and children, which is why they have become popular for use as a deterrent in areas where mice like to invade our homes.

We’ve selected six of the most popular peppermint sprays on the market that consumers have found to be effective in repelling mice.

1. Rodent Sheriff Pest Control Ultra-Pure Peppermint Spray

Rodent Sheriff Pest Control Spray 2 Pack

Main Features

  • Made in the USA
  • 8 ounces per bottle
  • Handcrafted formula
  • Ingredients: Peppermint oil, Sodium lauryl sulfate, Water, 1,2-Propylene carbonate, sodium Benzoate

Best overall peppermint spray for mice.

Rodent Sheriff is a popular brand for pest control, and this product is the go-to choice for numerous consumers looking for a way to deter mice, raccoons, ants, and other pests.

Each bottle contains 8 ounces, and you may be able to purchase them two or three at a time in a single package. Each bottle should give you around a thousand sprays.

The formula is handcrafted in the USA and contains peppermint oil along with water and other pet- and child-safe ingredients.

Tips for Use

Although this product claims to deter a broad spectrum of pests, it seems like it is more effective on mice and rats than larger mammals like raccoons. However it does seem to do pretty well with insects and spiders, so consider it for that use as well.

2. Harris Peppermint Oil Mouse & Rodent Repellant Spray

Harris Peppermint Oil Mice & Rodent Repellent Spray

Main Features

  • 20 ounces per bottle
  • Distilled water, peppermint pure essential oil, spearmint pure essential oil, and castor oil

Best all-natural formula without sulfates.

From a budget standpoint, Harris Peppermint Rodent Repellent Spray is a pretty good option. While not quite as popular as the Rodent Sheriff product above, it is still a favorite among buyers and may run you slightly less money for a larger amount. Each bottle contains 20 ounces rather than 8 ounces.

The Harris brand is also a well-known one and claims to be the oldest company in the US registered with the EPA.

One nice thing about this product is that it is sulfate-free. While many customers can tolerate sulfates, they can cause too much dryness or skin irritation for others.

If you do not like working with products containing sulfates, consider choosing this formula instead. If you get any on your hands, you are unlikely to find it irritating to sensitive skin.

Tips for Use

This product seems to be effective against both mice and rats, but perhaps more with mice than with rats.

As with the other products, you will get the best results if you are diligent with regular applications (maybe once a week) and if you combine this method with steel wool or cotton balls if you need to deter mice from entering your home or vehicle.

3. Natural Armor Peppermint Repellent for Mice

Natural Armor Peppermint Repellent for Mice

Standout Features

  • 128 ounces per bottle
  • Made in the USA
  • Clog-free formula
  • Indoor and Outdoor Use
  • Ingredients: Peppermint Oil, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, and Water

Best for large areas with the convenient larger size.

Natural Armor Peppermint Repellent is a fantastic option if you want to save money on a peppermint spray for mice. You can go through an 8-ounce bottle of mint spray surprisingly fast. This bottle contains 128 ounces, and it is very reasonably priced.

While the heftier bottle is heavy to carry around, it comes with an attached wand that makes it easy to direct the spray, including into tight spaces. The company recommends focusing on entry points in your house such as doors, windows, and air vents.

Tips for Use

Be sure to shake the container before you use it. This is a good recommendation for any mint spray product, but with such a large bottle, the ingredients may be more prone to settling than they would in a smaller container.

Some customers have commented that the pump failed before they used up all the spray. This does not seem to happen often, but keeping it in mind, you might want to have a backup spray bottle handy that you can transfer the contents to if necessary.

4. Grandpa Gus’s Mouse & Rodent Repellent Spray

Grandpa Gus's Mouse Rodent Repellent Spray

Standout Features

  • 8 ounces per bottle
  • Ingredients: Water, sodium lauryl sulfate, peppermint oil (4%), cinnamon oil (3%)
  • Made in the USA

Best for a high-concentration peppermint spray formula.

Do you feel like some of the other peppermint spray formulations you have tried are not concentrated enough? You might prefer Grandpa Gus’s Mouse Rodent Repellent, which contains 3% cinnamon oil and 4% peppermint oil.

Each bottle contains 8 ounces, and you can find packages that include multiple bottles at a reasonable price.

Tips for Use

Because this formula is more concentrated than others, a smaller amount may achieve more of an effect.

Grandpa Gus also sells his rodent repellant spray with the pouches. These two products work together for a more effective all-around solution. Place the pouches inside a room (1 pouch per 500 square feet), then spray the areas that have the most mouse activity.

5. Mighty Mint – 16oz Insect and Pest Control Peppermint Oil (mention the vehicle engine spray this company makes as well)

Mighty Mint Peppermint Oil Insect & Pest Control Spray with Concentrate

Standout Features

  • 8 ounces of concentrate
  • 16-ounce bottle of repellent
  • Makes up to 1 gallon (enough to fill the sprayer eight times)
  • Peppermint is locally sourced

Best for a customizable solution.

The Might Mint brand offers a good option for long term use. You can purchase both a standard size 16-inch bottle plus an 8-ounce bottle of concentrate. product is a little different from most.

You can use the concentrate to make up to a gallon of formulated repellent, giving you several refills. This saves on shipping, is eco-friendly as it reduces the number of plastic bottles we use.

Tips for Use

You can follow the instructions to achieve the default recommended concentration of peppermint. But what is great is that you can increase or decrease that concentration based on your needs.

6. Rodent Defense Vehicle Natural Repellent

Rodent Defense Vehicle Natural Repellent

Standout Features

  • Formulated by professionals
  • Doesn’t stain
  • Ingredients: 055% Peppermint Oil, .0225% Rosemary Oil, .0225 Garlic Oil, .50% White Pepper, and 99.40% Water & Vinegar

The product was also formulated to be stain-free. So, you can use it on any surface you want to protect from mice without worrying about leaving behind stains. That makes it great for use in the home as well.

Tips for Use

Many people buy this product to deter not just rats but squirrels. That said, it appears it may be more effective for rats and mice than squirrels. But your mileage may vary.

How to Make a DIY Peppermint Oil Spray for Mice

If you prefer a DIY approach, you can make your own peppermint spray. Here is a basic recipe to try.

Materials Needed

  • 1 small spray bottle 2 ounces (Look in the travel section of a drugstore.)
  • 1-ounce pure peppermint oil
  • 1-ounce water

Directions

  1. Pour the oil & water into the spray bottle.
  2. Shake well to blend the mix. The oil and water will separate over time. A small drop of detergent can help to keep the mixture evenly blended.

Reapply the spray as needed to keep the scent at its strongest. For best results, we recommended keeping the oil & water in the same proportions at least initially until you have not seen any mice for several weeks.

You can experiment with a lower concentration when you are using it as a preventative measure only. You can reduce the concentration to in this case to 1 part peppermint & 2 parts water.

Variation:  Clove oil can also be added to the mix if the peppermint oil alone is not working. Use in proportions of 1:2 – clove to peppermint oil.  In our recipe above, this would be ½ ounce clove oil to 1 ounce each peppermint oil & water.
